As DISH Network works to become a significant player in the wireless space, the company has made one giant step recently: launching its first 5G handset on its Boost Mobile prepaid brand.
DISH announced the Celero5G, its first proprietary 5G phone designed “from the ground up with 5G in mind,” and will be available for purchase later this fall. The “custom-built phone” for Boost, similar to AT&T’s Radiant or T-Mobile’s Revvl, the phone has exclusive branding made for Boost customers from DISH Wireless.
“With LG leaving the mobile device market and creating seismic shifts in the supplier landscape, we saw an opportunity,” said a Boost Mobile spokesperson. “The departure of LG left a significant hole in the Boost lineup. Celero5G is the response to fill that hole.”
All we know about this new handset is that it’s named Celero5G, which comes from the Latin word for “speed.” According to DISH’s press release, the budget-friendly phone is priced at $279 and has a 6.52-inch display, four cameras, 36 hours of battery life, 4GB RAM, a microSD card slot, and 65 GB of internal storage. The Celero5G will also have an iPhone-like metallic trim and a glass back- both of which are pretty great upgrades considering it’s a budget phone.
The Celero5G comes with 12 months of free unlimited data, text, and talk from Boost Mobile if you pre-order the phone by October 31st, 2021. There are, however, limits to what’s really “unlimited.” Customers that use more than 35 GB of data will be downgraded to 2G, but that’s still a sufficient amount for any user. Boost Mobile will also offer customers a free case with your purchase!
The release of the Celero5G is a significant first step for DISH Wireless as the company works to keep its current Boost Mobile customer base while also ambitiously building out a national 5G network.
